ROBBEN CONFIDENT
Former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben has said that Bayern Munich will certainly triumph over Chelsea in the Champions League final on May 19. Bayern Munich have the home advantage in the tie because the final takes place at the Allianz Arena in Munich. It is the home ground of the German club, who have just lost their chance to win the Bundesliga title to Borussia Dortmund. However, Arjen Robben has said that they will be extremely fired up for the match against Chelsea such that the English club will have no chance. This is the second Champions League final for Chelsea, while Bayern Munich reached this stage two years ago.
Back then, the Bayern Munich side containing Arjen Robben lost out to José Mourinho’s Inter Milan team 2-0 in the final at the Santiago Bernebeu. However, Robben reckons that the club has learnt from its mistakes in the past, while they are also extremely strong on paper. Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has scored almost 40 goals this season, but they have had a relatively easy run-in to the final. Chelsea, on the other hand, have eliminated current holders Barcelona in order to reach this position. Roberto di Matteo has just guided Chelsea to the fourth FA Cup title in just six years on Saturday.
“I had a great time at Chelsea and I’m really happy they reached the final. I saw their semi-final against Barcelona and they did well in a defensive capacity – you could say they parked the bus in their own area. But I have to disappoint them – because they are not going to win it. To be in a home final is almost indescribable. It’s so great, especially for those who have been connected with the club for so long,” Robben said ahead of the final.
